Government of Republika Srpska
Republika Srpska · entity · Executive · 17 seats
How it is appointed / elected
The President of the Republic nominates a prime minister-designate, and the National Assembly elects the Government by a majority of all deputies. The Government consists of the Prime Minister and 16 ministers, subject to constitutional ethnic-composition requirements.
- President of the Republic
Proposes a candidate for Prime Minister to the National Assembly.
- Prime minister-designate
Presents a programme to the National Assembly and proposes the Government’s ministerial membership.
- National Assembly
Elects the Government if a majority of all deputies vote in favour.
Conditions and constraints
Until full implementation of Annex 7, the Government has a Prime Minister and 16 ministers: eight Serb, five Bosniak and three Croat ministers. The Prime Minister may appoint one minister from Others from the largest constituent people’s quota.
The Prime Minister has two deputies chosen from the ministers. The Prime Minister and deputies may not come from the same constituent people.
After full implementation of Annex 7, at least 15% of Government members must come from one constituent people, at least 35% from two constituent peoples, and one member must be from Others. This is distinct from the transitional 8–5–3 formula.
A deputy nominated as Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister or minister does not participate in electing the Government. A deputy elected to such office does not vote on no confidence, their own dismissal, or the report of the Government or their ministry.
The Government is elected for four years; a new Government is elected after each new National Assembly. A Government defeated in a confidence vote, resigned, or whose term ended because the Assembly was dissolved remains in office until a new Government is elected.
In the cases under Article 94, the President nominates a prime minister-designate within ten days after acceptance of a resignation, a no-confidence vote, or expiry of the previous Government’s mandate following dissolution or shortening of the Assembly’s term. The new Government must be elected within 40 days of nomination.
Current officeholders · 2026 (20. saziv)
17 of 17 seats · As of 3 November 2026
The twentieth Government was elected on 17 March 2026, following the January nineteenth Government; the date records re-election of the whole Government, not each individual’s first appointment. Membership follows the current Cyrillic directory, corroborated by the January announcement naming the same ministers. The English directory is outdated: it names the September 2025 eighteenth Government and several former ministers. For eight people the affiliation label denotes their official electoral list at the 2026 general election, not party membership; the other affiliations are not stated in the reviewed institutional sources. Deputy prime minister roles are not assigned without individual confirmation.
