How it is appointed / elected
The Assembly has 23 directly elected representatives serving four-year terms. CEC confirmation of results and constitution of the Assembly are separate steps.
- Voters
Elect representatives by direct, secret ballot throughout the canton.
- Outgoing Assembly speaker
Convenes the new assembly’s first session; if unavailable, the succession specified in Rules Article 7 applies.
- Representatives with certified mandates
Following presentation of the CEC report, take office by giving and signing the oath; caucuses of constituent peoples with elected representatives are then formed (Articles 8–9).
- People’s caucuses and Assembly
Caucuses nominate leadership candidates; the Assembly confirms them under Rules Article 10. FBiH Constitution V.2.7 governs leadership composition and a vacant deputy position where a people is unrepresented.
Conditions and constraints
The Assembly has 23 seats; an election result is distinct from the new assembly taking office.
The first session is held within twenty days of confirmation, certification and publication of results, unless the Election Law provides otherwise (Article 7).
